BRCH would be Canada’s first large-scale 100 percent hydrogen-fired electricity generation facility that integrates hydrogen production, carbon sequestration and clean power to advance Canada towards net zero.
The project will utilize existing infrastructure at our Battle River Generating Station with new hydrogen production to generate reliable, clean electricity, while also creating economic opportunities in our rural communities.
To support this project, Heartland Generation was awarded $5 million in funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta's Carbon Capture Kickstart Program. In an effort to build on Alberta's global leadership in this space, the Carbon Capture Kickstart program will fill knowledge gaps, drive partnerships and innovation and accelerate project financing and deployment.
