About the Project
BRCH would be Canada’s first large-scale 100 percent hydrogen-fired electricity generation facility that integrates hydrogen production, carbon sequestration and clean power to advance Canada towards a clean energy future.
Heartland Generation is looking to convert the Battle River Generating Station (BRGS), a legacy coal-fired generation facility, to a clean energy production hub. BRCH will be configured to produce clean hydrogen, utilized to generate reliable, baseload, clean electricity for Alberta’s grid. Reinvestment at the site allows for the efficient utilization of existing transmission infrastructure, and creates new sustainable jobs in emerging industries, supporting the local communities.
BRCH also includes an open-access carbon sequestration hub, proximate to the BRGS, that will capture and sequester carbon emissions from the site, and other industrial sources in the region, safely and permanently. Learn more about the carbon hub here.
