Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance & Engineering, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing engineering services to Station Operations and Maintenance through the direct application of Engineering Principles.  The Senior Mechanical Engineer is accountable for ensuring that plant improvements, maintenance and construction projects are designed and implemented in a timely, cost effective and safe manner, meeting all engineering standards and codes.

What you’ll be doing:  

  • Perform Engineering and Project Management work in accordance with the station equipment plan
  • Plan, design and install upgrades and additions to mechanical systems such as high-pressure piping, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, boilers, etc.
  • Provide Engineering input to troubleshoot problems and provide technical support to Operations & Maintenance
  • Responsible for conducting Engineering feasibility studies
  • Manage the work of independent contractors during project implementation
  • Provide failure analysis interpretations to assist with root cause investigations
  • Promotes Health & Safety and regularly completes informal or formal observations of work and conditions within the facility and ensures formal safety observations occur in their department
  • Responsible for ensuring safe work plans are prepared and followed for all activities that have hazards or risks to people, property, or environment
  • Ensure that any project related work under their control does not result in an environmental non-compliance
  • Responsible for following appropriate compliance systems with regards to all environmental legislation, standards as well as corporate and station policy

What you must have:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA, or other provincial Professional Engineering Regulatory Association and qualifies for inter-provincial mobility
  • 7-10 years of relevant industry experience with rotating equipment in thermal/gas fired power generation, or a comparable industry. Consideration will be given to individuals with more extensive applicable experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer focus and service
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations that affect equipment and systems within power generation
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases
  • Ability to apply knowledge and specialized expertise to solve problems and analyze data
  • Effective team player working well with coworkers, clients and contractors.
  • Self-starter with diverse and strong technical and analytical skills

Where you’ll be working:

This position is located at our Battle River Generating Station in Forestburg, Alberta.
