How do you fit in?  

Reporting to the Thermal Maintenance Engineering Manager the incumbent is a member of the Operations & Maintenance management team accountable for the development and implementation of day-to-day maintenance and engineering management processes and strategic business objectives within area of responsibility. Responsible for all aspects of maintaining the power station assets, including planning, organizing, and controlling permanent staff and contractors resources in order to satisfy the needs of the Client’s and meet the Joint Venture’s business objectives.

What you’ll be doing:  

• Learn and apply all Corporate & Station Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures and actively work to continually improve safety, and environmental standards on site

• Set objectives and responsibilities for Engineers and Team Leaders in first line diagnosis and maintenance activities to preserve the highest levels of safety, environmental compliance, plant integrity and availability

• Responsible for ensuring the direct reports possess the talent and skills required to deliver the business plans and objectives. This includes determining the functional structure and assignment of work

• Work with direct reports to perform goal setting, facilitate development plans, conduct and sign off on performance reviews, approve promotions and progressions, provide coaching and mentorship, as well as administer Performance Improvement Plans in accordance with Company policy

• Ensure professional development and training of staff is carried out to maintain the competencies required by APEGA and other institutions

• Execute the safe working processes, including change management to ensure that engineering and maintenance works are managed according to Station Policies and Procedures

• Ensure Policies and Procedures are in place to meet all statutory and regulatory obligations in the ongoing engineering and maintenance of the Station

• Ensure audits are conducted and adherence to Policy and Procedures are monitored

• Ensure incidents are investigated and reported and that systems are in place to monitor assigned actions and follow up

• Review all contracts and project performance with a view to quality, cost, delivery, safety, and value

• Develop annual revisions of the Station Maintenance Business Plan and Equipment Lifecycle Strategies

• Update the maintenance and project accounts with forward projections and variance explanations, on a monthly basis

• Ensure all approval processes and documentation are in place

• Responsible for the development and execution of long-term service agreements

What you must have:

• Valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate of Qualification and/or graduation (Diploma) from a recognized institute of technology in a related technology, technologist diploma, or related Engineering Degree.

• Registration or eligible for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer would be considered an asset.

• First-Class Steam Engineers Certificate and registered or eligible for registration with ABSA would be considered an asset.

• A Project Management Professional certification would be considered an asset.

• 10+ years of related experience in a supervisory role

• Must possess a valid Alberta operator’s license (minimum class 5)

• Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict, adapt to changing situations, and develop creative and innovative ways to resolve issues. Highly sensitive to Joint Venture relationships and contractual obligations

• Well-developed analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities

• Leading and directing people, experience working with a bargaining unit is preferred

• Knowledge of labour relations and collective agreements

• Demonstrated ability in developing leadership and management skills

• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)

• Ability to work with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and SharePoint

This position is located at our Sheerness Generating Station, in Hanna, AB.
